I was expecting so much more when I ate here on 8/25/13. I had heard great things about this place and I love Irish pub food. My wife and I split the sampler app which was good. However, the favorite thing from the sampler which was a hog wing was cold when we started to eat it. The other parts of the sampler were good though. My mother in law ordered the Irish stew which looked ok it was just really really salty. She said she had been there before and got the same thing and said it was salty then. If you like really salty stew it would be up your alley. The owner or manager came to our table to see what we were going to get so we asked her what she recommended. She said the fish and chips were popular as well as the entre we got that evening. We got the gaelic broiled chicken. The dish as described on the menu is a grilled chicken served with a creamy cheese sauce atop mashed potatoes. When we got the dish we both looked at each other puzzled. It looked like someone had taken a can of processed nacho cheese and dumped it all over our chicken it was disgustingly covered in the stuff. It didnt even taste like real cheese it tasted like the cheese you get with nachos from a ball game or something. However , the mashed potatoes were real only thing is I couldnt really enjoy them because they were covered in cheese sauce and extremly cold. I was hoping this would be a great restraunt for mt juliet but they better get back to fresh and quality or they will soon be out of business. I will probably try them again to give them one more chance but when it comes to restraunts its two strikes and your out so we will see.

It has great irish food! Gaelic Broiled chicken is my new favorite! Man does it make my mouth water typing about it. Great bartenders and servers as well. Can't wait to try the corn beef and cabbage the next time I'm in.

I love this place! I love the decoration, the music, the beer. We've been there probably 5 times now. and every time I go I have a different experience. The first time we went service was slow but they had just opened so it was packed. The Shepherd pie was delicious and served in a russel potato which was super cool. Next time I went they quit doing the potato thing which I thought was so unique... Their Irish stew was delicious though. Last time we went my experience was not so good, the service was slow, we waited for 45 minutes for our food and the Shepherd pie was not even close to what it was before, the meat was more like chunks, like small meatballs, too salty... I like the fact that the manager is always around making sure everybody is taken care of. But the service is still just ok and I just wish the food was always consistently good but honestly I never know what I'll get next time. I'll continue to go because like I said I love the place, and I hope the food doesn't disappoint me again

In the eight months that Kavanagh's has been open it has proved itself to be a "go-to" spot for me and my friends. During the first couple of months there were a few "hiccups" due to staff turnover and growing pains but the owners, Tom & Ann Kavanagh, have been extremely receptive to feedback and the restaurant continues to improve because of that fact. I am a fan of Irish pub food and Kavanagh's definitely fills the bill! Having tried pretty much all of the menu at this point, I can say that I have yet to sample anything that I would not order again. The staple items for an Irish pub (fish & chips, bangers & mash and corned beef & cabbage) are spot on and a great go-to for the pub novice. The full Irish breakfast and pork tenderloin also rank high in my opinion! I can honestly say that every person I have brought here has become a fan...and I have some pretty picky friends! In addition to the great food, Kavanagh's has several regulation dart boards, trivia on Monday nights and live music Friday-Sunday. Definitely a great addition to the growing Mt. Juliet scene!

We attended the soft opening and was happy for it. Understandably the food was a little slow to the table, they were working out the quirks. The food was good... I ahd the Bangers and Mash, and my husband had the Shepard's pie (which was in a HUGE baked potato). They were both really good. The cole slaw needs a little work, really bland. Steel tip dart boards for the gamers out there, and I believe they have leagues. Great Bar, can't wait until they serve alcohol. Waitstaff was friendly, the beer was cold, and the atmosphere was "Pubby", which is always a plus. Since we work so close... we'll be back I'm sure and I hear Irish Stew is on the Full menu, so, I can't wait to try it out!

Great Irish pub right here in Mt. Juliet! Had an early dinner on a Thur. night, so it was pretty quiet. I noticed a small stage, so I enquirer about live music. Live Celtic music on Fri. and Sat. Nights. I will definitely return for that. I'm not a huge fan of authentic Irish food, so I had to turn down the server's recommendation of the egg and sausage appetizer (not sure what it was called, but I remember the description). I do love fish & chips, though! The fish was the best I've ever had! Nearly the size of my foot, and perfectly encased in a crispy delicious crust. The "chips" were basically French fries, but definitely fresh cut, and also delicious. Kid friendly, too. My 6 year old son said, "This chicken is awesome!" We selected a healthy side for him. Fresh fruit. Melons, grapes and strawberries. Hostess, wait staff and bartender were extremely friendly!

My second trip to Kavanagh's was better than the first, and the first was fabulous! Bartenders are in classic Irish vest and tie with the ivy cap. Jacob wears it well. The food is honestly some of the best Irish food in the Nashville area. The Scotch Eggs are a huge surprise - delicious! I had the Guinness Steak Burger, a glaze made with Guinness on a thick, juicy burger. Even the bun is obviously made especially for them because it's unique. One touch that I was impressed with as a Guinness ale lover, was the shamrock they put in the head of the beer. I have been disappointed more than once asking for a Guinness at other places by not adding the signature shamrock in the foam. Guinness is poured correctly (check YouTube on how); very impressive. The dart room is massive to say the least. First class all the way. If you're hankering for some great food and atmosphere Kavanagh's is the place to head. They may even remember your name - he did mine!

It's about time Mt Juliet had live music and a good pint !!! I was very impressed with the food and the service ! I read the other reviews and can't quite figure out what they're talking about ? Must have been opening night or insanely busy, because my experience was incredible ! So good ! Try the Irish Stew ! A good pint and live music, just what Mt Juliet needed !

The food is always good, the Guinness is amazing, and the live music on Fridays nights is on par.

Must say, we had a 5 star here before and it was mainly due to Danny at the bar and the 4 flavor fries. OH, THOSE FRIES! Simply the best. Now, alas, they no longer serve those fries. They still have "4 flavor fries" on the menu, but they are clearly cheaper "frozen bag" steak fries available in any local market or grocery. On the plus side, the sauces are still just as good. Worth a stop in, and we will still go occasionally, but sadly not as much. We loved those fries so much, and that was one of the main reasons we went as much as we did. Now that they've changed, we won't go as much to somewhere where we can make the food at home the same way for considerably cheaper. Still the only local place that serves Magners cider though, so that's a plus.

A real Irish pub in the US. Very rare indeed. Great place. Good food good people. Real Shepard's Pie which almost impossible to find.

I had driven past Kavanagh's many times but never stopped in likely due to outside appearance and its awkward corner strip mall location. I finally visited today. They have friendly bartenders and good happy hour apps and beers. The Guinness tastes correct. It's a decent Irish place that unfortunately was pretty empty in the restaurant section, but that could be because it's a weeknight. They have a lot of dart boards, so I will be back on a weekend to play as well.

We love this place. We bring the kids and they enjoy the music. The staff is extremely friendly and always greet and talk to our kids. Good Irish food, friendly atmosphere and live music on Fridays and Saturday. What else can you ask for.

This place has redeemed itself. Getting this out of the way now, I personally know the owner, Tom. I used to work with him. Now, I would not let that hold me back know from being critical of the place, because I love food, and I have no problems keeping people away from awful places. I'll also not let it hold me back from saying I LOVED this place when it first showed up. But after about a year, the food got pretty awful, and I was very vocal to people about it. Well, a guy I know I work, who's wife works here as a hostess, told me that they changed cooking staff, pretty much all of it. So, me and my wife figured we would come back, and give it another shot. I have to say, it's MUCH better then it used to be, the chicken is awesome (the last time, it was a nasty block of processed, gross, meat, that I couldn't swallow), the new mac and cheese is some of the best I have EVER had. The garlic butter goes great with everything that they have. I am glad to say, anybody nearby should seriously come check it out. The prices are a tad high, but still below places like longhorn, but the food is more than worth it. And Tom, don't lose your current cooking staff.

Went by on a Saturday night, easy parking and no waiting. There was live music which added to the good feeling of the place. Waitress was prompt and friendly. Had Fish and Chips, very tasty, not greasy. Order the sampler appetizer plate, the Hog Wings are the bomb! So are the Bites. Had a great time and will definitely go back with the rest of the clan!

  • Taylor S.

DELICIOUS!!! The Hog Wings with their Guinness sauce are heaven. They fry their fish and chips and pickles and cheddar broccoli bites to perfection just like a good mixture of the UK and southern comfort food. Their desserts are to die for: I've had the chocolate seduction (need I say more?), and the bailey's cheesecake (flawless). I hear the bread pudding is amazing as well! They have an awesome whiskey selection, but, even so, it's very family friendly and the live music is super fun! One of my faves for sure.

Loved this place. Friendly staff, great atmosphere, tons of options, and good food. I had the Scotch eggs to start, and bangers and mash as mine main. No complaints, well-seasoned food, and plenty of it. Friendly attentive staff and a clean, open atmosphere make this place 5/5 hands down.

My wife and I were visiting some friends in Mt. Juliet while out of town over the weekend. I love a good Irish pub (I'm pretty picky though on them) and she happened to see Kavanagh's while looking up restaurants on TripAdvisor and said we should go. I'm ever so glad we did. My wife isn't big on them typically but usually goes because I love them, and she even loved the place. It has a fun atmosphere that unlike most pubs is family friendly, everyone on the staff we encountered was incredibly friendly as well, was reasonably priced, food was wonderful (the Scotch Eggs were amazing!), and the drinks were on point. My wife likes mixed drinks and they made them very well, and I usually am a whiskey/scotch and beer drinker which they had a great selection of both. This is one of the more authentic Irish Pubs I have been to even down to the detail of the decor- they even have a replica of the front gates of the Guinness brewery on the wall and the food was very authentic to what I've had in Ireland. Many nights they also have live music that was quite entertaining as well. I'd recommend this if you were local or even if you were just stopping through Nashville- it's a short and convenient ride from the Nashville Airport if you are in from out of town and definitely worth the visit. We liked it so much we visited again before our flight left the next day-our only regret is that we didn't visit earlier when we got to Nashville!

My husband and I just moved to the Mt. Juliet area. We stopped by here the other evening around 9pm to grab a drink and an appetizer. We sat at the bar and spent the whole hour there chatting with Danny. The place was empty since it was an hour before close on a Tuesday, but we could tell it had a great vibe. Danny was incredibly friendly, and our appetizers (wings and the four flavor fries) were delicious. We left telling him we would absolutely be back. The next day after a long day of settling into our home, we decided to go back and try entrees. We were there a bit early on a Wednesday and caught the end of happy hour, getting a good rate on drinks and appetizer. We tried the Shepherd's Pie and the Gaelic Chicken. The chicken was ever so slight salty, but in the end both items were quite tasty. We just may mention to take it easy on the salt next time for that item. Danny was there once again and as friendly as the night before with all the patrons in the bar area. He also told us about the live music on Fridays and Saturdays and how families come for dinner and the kids play and dance. We will definitely have to check that out with our son sometime! We also spent a little time playing darts on our second visit, and we decided we must bring friends back here to relax, play some darts and have some good food and drinks!

Stopped in here on a Friday night with my husband and some friends. We waited at the bar for about 15 minutes while a table opened up. The first thing I noticed about this place was the amount of completely wasted space. All the tables were full and they kept mentioning how busy they were, but looking around there is all this empty space, it didn't seem busy, there's all these half walls and cut offs around the room where tables could and should be. Any way, we split the sampler, it had a nice selection, the pork "wing" was very good, fell right off the bone. The broccoli and cheddar bites were okay, they were kind of skinny and didn't have a lot in them so I think they overcooked a little, and the others liked the potato skins and fried pickles. I got the Gaelic Chicken upon the waitresses recommendation. It was good, but she had me hyped up to think it was going to be incredible. My mashed potatoes crusted over and the cheese sauce thickened up, so I think it may have died in the window a little bit. There was supposed to be sauteed peppers and onions on top, but mine had maybe two and a half slices of pepper and a couple onion strips, so that was a little disappointing. My husband had their fish and chips and said they were just okay. The music was fun to listen to, they changed it up between singing and all instrumental songs, and the staff was incredibly friendly. Our waitress was very nice, had a very nurturing nature to her, we all wanted to call her mom. It was a fun place but there is some stiff competition for great Irish food not too far away so I'm not sure we will return. I hope they clear out some of those silly half walls and put more tables in so they can make more money!

Excellent place for lunch. Love the atmosphere and the food was quite good. The authentic Irish music playing during our meal was great. We had Shepherd's Pie and the portion size was great, especially considering it was a value priced lunch special. We will definitely return soon!

Live music on a Sunday nite! Not common in Wilson county. Good beer and atmosphere but they really MUST learn how to do authentic Irish meals! I got corned beef and cabbage, meat was shredded, like in a deli slicer and VERY dry :-( Should have been chunks. Will try again but hope its better next time

Having ate at Kavanagh's several times, each time it gets better. Today was a big improvement. Today they had a limited menu because of their 1/2 way to St. Patrick's Day event. The waitress was upset because of the limited menu but everyone in our party was able to order their favorite Irish dish. No harm in a limited menu when a large crowd is expected. In fact, it made our ordering easier because the others with me hasn't eaten there before. As always, I enjoyed the Hog Wings.

We couldn't get a reservation anywhere in Nashville for Valentine's Day. I drove past Kavanaugh's that afternoon and peeked in. It' seemed cozy enough so I called in a reservation. While there was a good live music, there were empty tables. Hog Wings were very good (although 3 for $10 and add one for $2 is odd...do the math...I'll just take 3 extra ones). The Fish & Chips and the Shepard's Pie were very good. The veggies on the plate were thawed, frozen. Our friendly server really cared that we were okay. So much that she interrupted our conversation numerous times to ask. ("How's everything tasting?" The food is not tasting or doing anything.) The ambiance was the only downside. The tables, chairs and benches are really nice, the paint is okay and so are the wall hangings but the drop ceiling looks awful, a couple of rectangular ceiling lights had ugly paper covering them to knock down the brightness and some of the decor was tacky. The lighting was much too bright for evening. (Dimming would give better ambiance and also hide these issues). The bar has no view of the stage. Inexpensive fixes would make for a better visit. Free advice from a designer: A restaurant visit is an all around experience.

I will be back to this place. I had the Shepherds Pie, it was made with ground lamb and it was superb. I was reminded of childhood. Our waitress was very attentive but not over board. I enjoyed the ambience, and unpretentious vibe. I'm excited to try more on the menu!

Stopped in for lunch. Got the potato soup and some Scotch eggs. The food was great and the server was super friendly. I would go there again when I get to that side of town.

Been here several times, food is average at best. the scotch egg sauce was too thick and left a funny after taste. The service was terrible, bar tender can't do a proper Guiness pour, she couldn't make a proper shot, and has no personality. She barely looked at us when we ordered. Drunks in the bar started argument with our group for no reason, we explained to them what we wer3 talking about so they would understand, then they rudely commented when we walked away. Then the owner said I had to leave, i wasn't drunk, but he sided with the r3gulars. Won.t go back!

Today, September 16th, was the first time I ate at Kavanagh's. My partner and I decided to go because we wanted to play Trivia, which they have on Monday nights at 7PM. Trivia was fun and we had great service from our waitress. We also played a quick game of darts and it was a good time. Atmosphere was friendly, good music playing. The reason I'm giving this place 3 stars rather than 5 is because of the food. We started with the Scotch Eggs, they were good. For my entree I had the Gaelic Broiled Chicken, supposedly a favorite. I thought it was okay. I'm not sure what is Irish about it. The chicken was covered in cheese sauce with peppers and onions on a bed of very fake instant potatoes. My partner had the Shepherd's Pie and it was just awful. It was made with chunks of unseasoned, poor quality lamb meat. Our waitress was kind enough to remove it from our tab. Lastly we tried the bread pudding, another disappointment. The whiskey sauce was good, but there wasn't enough. The bread was very buttery and salty, and without the sauce was pretty dry. Overall my partner and I had a good time. Beer was good and service was good, but the actual food really ruined it for us. We will most likely give this place another try, just hope the food is better next time!

Great hidden gem! Danny, bartender and musician, is awesome! The hog wings fall right off of the bone and the chicken wings are excellent as well. They offer free darts for entertainment. The scotch eggs are also good, though I found the potato skins to be mushy, tasteless and stale, as though they had sat for awhile. Overall, neat place hidden in a strip mall area.

They do a nice job if re-creating a real Irish pub. I know cause I've been to Dublin and been to plenty of pubs there. Small but nice selection on tap. The food was good. Very good scotch eggs and I had a full Irish breakfast at 3 in the afternoon with a few cold pints. Great service at the bar. Nicely done. I'd go back here anytime.

Great food & great staff- had a late lunch on Saturday with my niece and we enjoyed the sampler appetizer and split an order of bangers & mash- everything was awesome! We will be back with family and friends soon!

We just stopped in for a beer. We got the Black and Tan..you know your typical Irish beer. Well It was good because they used Harp instead of Bass. It just gave it a funky taste

I have eaten at Kavanagh's Irish Pub several times since it opened and was pleased everytime. The Scotch eggs are good and the fish and chips are some of the best I've had .....fresh tasting fish and light and crispy. They have Smittys on draft which I really like as well as Guinness and Harp. Glad we have a local Irish Pub now !

Great place if you know what to expect from an Irish Gastropub. Expect to hear a live musician, spend a little money, and enjoy some good food and beer!

The Scottish Eggs are fabulous as well as the Hog Wings! You can tempt yourself into trying something other than the sample platter the then you cAn become an official Kavanaugh's supporter! I can only Hope to try their Fish and Chips tomorrow when we visit again! The music is also very refreshing with Tony singing ballads of days gone bye? Check out Kavanaughs you will not be disappointed!

Average..... Bartender was very nice. Friday night 945pm no live music. Asked for menu and was given a very little "latenight" after 10 menu even though the regular menu says till 10pm. Was a bit upset being other looked like they had a great looking Club that I wanted to try.

We drove up from Georgia to see our new home in Mt. Juliet and discovered this little gem as we decided to find some lunch ... It was a wonderful. James the manger made me a delicious Irish coffee and shared his expansive knowledge of Irish whiskey .. then the glorious food arrived . I had the chicken salad and vegetable soup ..it was just so good and hearty sevings ..daughter had a baked potato..it was huge and fabulous..she didn't even want anything else . The owner Tom came out and sat with us and told us about his scotch eggs..being this experience had already made it a favorite hang out and we dont even live here yet ..we will be trying them very soon. It is very clean ..plenty of room ..live music on the weekends and a very well stocked bar . I could go for drinks just to be served by the wonderful accents

I was hoping this would a great add on to Mt Juliet but I have been quite disappointed. I have been there 3 times - once for drinks and twice for lunch. Bartender server was great and she even gave us a few samples. However, the food was not much to be desired. I had the fish and chips the first time and it was average. The second lunch visit was horrible. I had the banger and mash and the potatoes were bland and tasted similar to instant. My friend had a club sandwich and stew. His sandwich was decent, however the stew had a big scoop of the not so good potatoes covering the bottom of the bowl. I am really pulling for the small independent restaurants but I just don't think I will return.

Kavanagh's was great! My family went for dinner on a Saturday night and our service, food and experience were great! The server made us aware of any time issues that could arise due to a large party that was there. It was a great experience and if you're going to get beer - get a Guinness! It was the perfect pour!
